1998 COP Boating Annual Report
by John Lane
With a full years tenure as boating chair under my belt, I can say that the boating program was both different and the same as last year. COP continued to offer quality educational programming for canoeing and kayaking flat and whitewater. We initiated a whitewater filmfest that was a modest financial success and provided a late winter social event for member and non-member boaters.
New faces showed up for the boating program while old ones left and boat shed equipment and Yough stop management became the responsibility of new people.
We initiated roll sessions at Galyan's and may continue this if member interest dictates.
COP helped support boating leader training by supporting partial tuition for a whitewater training seminar held in Pennsylvania.
Accounting problems left the exact status of the boating section budget in limbo.
Late in the year, a capital campaign to replace the Yough Stop port-a-potties was initiated. To date, approximately 30% of the anticipated funding needs have been contributed by COP boaters.
Respectfully submitted,
