In the City...Do Red, White And Boom with COP!

Columbus Outdoor Pursuits is renting canoes, kayaks, and raft seats for the "Red, White, and BOOM!" festivities on Tuesday, July 3. The price is $20 per canoe for members and $30 per canoe for nonmembers. (as long as a member rents the canoe, the $20 fee is sufficient.) Canoes hold a maximum of two adults and two children as long as the canoe floats safely. (COP leaders reserve the right to determine "safely.") Approximately 25 raft seats will be available for $10 per seat for adult members, $15 per seat for adult nonmembers, and $5 per seat for all children under 13.

Rental fees include a life jacket and paddle. Lifejackets must be worn and fastened during all activity on the river, NO EXCEPTIONS! Bring a flashlight or other boat light. No light, no boat. Rental fee does not include lights.

Only one application per household will be accepted.

Your current, paid membership # must be included on the application to qualify for the member price. Only applications with checks or money orders (made payable to: Columbus Outdoor Pursuits) for the entire amount will be accepted. — 75% of the available canoe and raft seats will be designated for COP members only.

Application deadline is June 24 to Guy Sheaffer, 2879 Sherwood Rd. Cols., OH 43209-2269 614-237-0093. Applications that cannot be accepted due to limited space, will be returned no later than July 8, 2001.

All applicants will be called. The rented canoes and rafts will be at the Lower Scioto Boat Launch (Greenlawn Marina) by 8 PM (entrance is across from the impound lot on Whittier St.) Renters are expected to help unload and load the equipment. COP may refuse rental on the day of the event due to safety concerns, e.g., high water on the river.

If you have your own boat... this is simple. We meet at the Lower Scioto Park by 6 PM and picnic or dine until 8 PM, then head upriver. Your boat must have a current registration, you need to have the numbers on your boat; you need to have your boat registration in hand; you need to have a life jacket for each person in the boat; and you need one light per boat. Unlicensed boats are prevented from paddling.
