Trip Reports

Many climbing trips are made by COP members. The Red River Gorge, New River Gorge and Seneca Rocks are excellent nearby places to climb for the weekend or just a day. Recent extended trips have been made to Red Rock Canyon, NV and the Black Hills of SD. Most climbing trips are spontaneously planned by fellow climbers and are not advertised through COP. The COP Wall is a great place to meet other climbers to plan trips. We also prefer to have any beginners gain climbing experience at the wall before joining us on any trip.

This was a beginner climbing trip, but why not stay an extra day and raft down the Lower New River together? That sounded good to us.
We did get some nice climbing in, too. Pictured in the raft is Greg, Karen, Lori, Brian, and Mike.

Red Rock Canyon, NV - March 2007

Good friends, warm sun, and red rock, who could ask for more? Our group as shown below consisted of Jason, Patrice, Karen, Ryan, Tom and Mike. Also pictured below is Jason on the traverse pitch of Cat in the Hat; Karen starting her way up the last pitch of Cat in the Hat, Tom working his way up Cat in the Hat, Mike leading a climb, and Patrice climbing at Calico Basin.

Black Hills, SD - July 2006

The Black Hills is not only home to Mt. Rushmore, but also great slab climbing on frictiony granite with many needles and spires to summit. We had the chance to climb the classic Tricouni's Nail which features a simul-rappel to decend. Shown below is Zach climbing up Tricouni's Nail and Zach and Karen on the simul-rappel. Also pictured is Karen on a cool looking rock feature in Rushmore and Tom at the top of a needle at Sylvan Lake State Park.
