Pack your pack and go to the back country with Columbus Outdoor Pursuits!
Our volunteers lead a number of backpacking trips throughout the year. We travel to various parts of Ohio, the United States, and even oversees to explore and camp in unique places. Whether you’re just cutting the tags off your first pack or your pack has logged more miles in the last year than you put on your car, we think you’ll find a trip to enjoy with us!
Speaking of new gear, we’ll also help you figure out how to best use it, or even what to buy if you’re just starting to think about backpacking. Each year, COP offers Beginning Backpacking School, where gear, food, trip planning, and Leave No Trace is covered. Advanced classes covering topics such as snow travel, river crossings, and canyoneering are also offered. Additionally, being in the back country is not without risk, so we also organize a number of first aid classes – from American Red Cross basic first aid and CPR to Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder, through the SOLO and NOLS organizations.
Consult the Backpacking Activity Schedule to see a listing of upcoming trips and classes. Contact the trip leader listed for trip questions or your suitability for a given trip. Make sure to read our articles and peruse our photos to see our members in their latest adventures in the back country!
