Happy New Year 2012 from Bicycling Activity Leader – Suzanne Birk
As we bring in a new season and an exciting time to get ready to ride our bikes, I am thrilled with the opportunity to introduce a new year of TOSRV direction and Budget Tour Leadership. As many of you know, Frank Seebode has accepted this extraordinary position, bringing into the fold a huge base of stability and experienced leadership. We welcome Frank as our Commander of all things pertaining to Budget Tours and of course, our organization’s foundation of one of our two largest cycling events, TOSRV. Frank is also forging ahead with unbridled passion towards bringing technology and automation to the COP home front, as we assess our needs to implement user-friendly ways to access ride information and to distribute timely and effective communications back to our Leadership and ride participants. Frank and I both are involved in effecting change with the decision-makers from our Web Tech Committee. We are currently in sessions with the committee to discuss what would most benefit us in the short term with many fresh ideas provided by our current Bicycling Leaders. As we explore all of our options, Frank or I will make sure to keep you posted. We know we need to play catchup and are working hard to gather requirements for a new and improved method of capturing member data and ride metrics, keeping our social media development in focus during the upcoming months, as well. Expect to see some changes soon. Frank is going to make sure we tackle this item and bring COP into current times; emphasis on online event registration.
Tell all your pals to go make friends with us on FACEBOOK!

In one sense, the Bicycling Events Coordinator and Bicycling Activity Leader roles are co-mingled, in that we both will most certainly need the support of our existing leadership base to help sustain our entire collection of rides: Roving Rides, Weekly Rides, One-Time special rides, Budget Tours, and yes, even new Full Service Tours. Just as important, we need all of you leaders to help the organization survive (as our knees start to squeak a little) for future generations of bicycling enthusiasts and dedicated young riders. As our mission, we want this younger demographic to gain the knowledge and know-how to enable COP to flourish with new members that will enjoy and enrich the lives through many of our activity offerings.
Please take this seriously! Ask your friends and interested folks to join the ranks of bicycling leaders. I cannot emphasize this enough! Recruit, Recruit, Recruit…..please.
Thank you for the continued support of the COP Cycling program. I look forward to seeing you on January 20th for some good times and special moments!
NEWS FLASH – We will have Bicycling Leadership Training in February (details below). Bring anyone interested in becoming a new Leader or has the desire to educate themselves on the safety and etiquette of good riding habits. Watch the website for details and for signup.
Be Safe on the Roads!
Suzanne
