"It's a new year for the bicycling program. -Kathy Hoke
Riding your bike(s) may be the last thing you're thinking about as the January chill sets in. But the balmy weather and long days will return, and we want to be ready to help you get the most fun and mileage out of your two-wheeled sport.
It's a new year for the bicycling program. We have some great events and ideas, particularly in support of our ride leaders. We're not quite ready to announce them, but we're determined to make leading in COP an experience that's well worth the effort. It's all about fun, friendship and personal growth.
The bicycling committee invites everyone interested in COP's bicycling program to come out for our planning meeting on Sunday afternoon, January 13. We will brainstorm and strategize for the 2002 season. All ideas and members are welcome. We are especially interested in hearing from new members and those who have not taken on ride leadership in the past. There are many ways to help the program besides leading rides. We need your energy and ideas. The meeting is at CycleTech / Benchmark Outfitters basement meeting space, 4550 Kenny Road (at Henderson) in Columbus from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
We also have a ride leader training session scheduled for Saturday, February 16 at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 Weisheimer Road in Columbus, featuring veteran bicyclist Gordon Renkes, whose knowledge about safety, maintenance and bicycle handling is a great resource for our organization. We will make this training session, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. useful, fun, interesting and free. Lunch is on COP.
We will have another leader training event in March in the eastern or southern parts of the metro area. The date and place will be announced at the January 13 meeting.
