Beginning Backpack School - 2002
March 9 to April 21, 2002
Registrations are now being
accepted for the Beginning Backpacking School. The class will be held on Saturdays in March and April, tentative dates
for classes are March 9th, 16th and April 6. There will be a day hike (with packs) on April 13th and an overnight
backpack trip April 20th -21st. March 23 may be used as a make up day or additional class if there is enough interest.
The curriculum covers safety, backwoods ethics, clothing, equipment, food, cooking gear, basic map & compass skills, and trip planning. I try to gear the class towards giving you the confidence and basic skills to spend a night or a few days enjoying the backcountry. There are plans for an intermediate backpacking class immediately following this one.
Cost is $50 for adult COP members, $80 for non-members, $25 for members ages 15-17 and $40 for non-members ages 15-17. Fees cover course costs and instruction but do not include the trip food, transportation or personal equipment rental. Refunds must be requested prior to March 1st. Register Soon! Class is limited to the first 25 paid applicants. Some rental packs, tents, and sleeping pads will be available at addition cost.
