The Loss Of A Friend

When George Harkrader passed away on January 24, 2002, we all lost a good friend. A COP member whose main interest was bicycling, he inspired others by his example of quiet leadership. Without being showy about it, he was always there to lend a hand. For many years, he was the ride leader for HOOT in June. He also volunteered his time for CFC weekends and for many other organization projects. George was an avid downhill skier and an amateur radio enthusiast. He loved his wife, Ann, and was proud of their collective families. He wasn't comfortable being the recipient of any help ... his modus operandus was being of help to other people. His demeanor was often to stay in the background, so much so that some people say they're not sure who he was. But, if you ever saw that twinkle in his eye or heard that chuckle on his smiling lips, you'd say, "That's George!"
