Eddylines   By John Lane

Now we get into the meat of our instructional and whitewater paddling season. Pool sessions and roll classes and the first Kayak I lie behind. Other classes and trips lie ahead. Our classes and trips take a lot of time and toil from our volunteers. While we've been successful in recruiting some new leaders while retaining most experienced ones, I f ear the load is a great one for our volunteers - busy already - to bear. We've tried to provide leader instruction and skills training in an effort to train our volunteers and increase boating program quality. Of course this costs volunteers time also....

I'd like to have input from our leaders and instructors on how the season is going, whether they feel supported in their boating classes and trips, Feel free to call me at 614-486-4548 or lane.30 (AT) osu.edu

While you're thinking about boating, let me introduce a new program that Eric Gehres developed to help reward our volunteer leaders:

Boating Leaders - Win Big Prizes!

Attention COP boating program volunteer leaders. Now that you have enthusiastically volunteered to run clinics and trips for 2002, you will be happy to learn that the chance to win lottery prizes awaits you. The lottery was designed to foster

leadership development, participation and volunteerism. The drawing will be held at the November scheduling meeting. To win, you must be present at that meeting. Here are the boating leader lottery rules:

1. Points (read lottery chances) for the drawing accrue as follows:

2. Trip or school must actually happen. Cancelled trips won't count.

3. Attend the 2003 scheduling meeting in November, 2002. Leader points wilI be converted into lottery chances. The drawing will be held at the scheduling meeting and you must be in attendance to receive your prize.
