Eddylines by John Lane

William McKinley, Richard McKinley, Barbie Demmy, Doug Eldridge, Maera Flynn, Ann Gerckens, Stanley Gift, Chris Goldschmidt, Fernando Caro, Dave Richer and Mary Spikowski spent their TOSRV weekend by taking part in the ODNR Division of Watercraft river rescue training.  Instead of spinnning and spills, they had swimming and thrills on the Olentangy River at fairly high release levels.  This is another demonstration of the year-round training opportunities we arrange for our boating leaders.

Although our early summer has proved more moist than normal, we can expect drier conditions ahead and just three more months of a full-on boating schedule.  Whether you're into FWWWE or the Gauley, or our newest addition of the Full Moon Paddle, the time is now to check your calendar and link up with us on our expeditions to somewhere.

Volunteer Recognition

Dave Seslar: He is extremely knowledgeable about kayaking, as well as many other topics. I describe him to my little sister as "a library of information". His thorough explanation of techniques, river reading, and all aspects of boating have helped me to learn a great deal about the sport. He is always looking out for people on the river, making sure that they are comfortable and happy and have everything they need. He is also extremely safety conscious. I have learned that when Dave says that a particular line through a rapid is "interesting", that he is always right, but it is not necessarily "interesting" in a good way!

The above write up was submitted by a COP member last fall when the Volunteer Recognition Committee requested the general membership to send in a letter describing their favorite volunteer to be recognized at the General Membership Meeting. The Volunteer Recognition Committee is looking forward to recognizing more of our superior volunteers in the upcoming General Membership Meeting held in October. Further information will be coming out in the Newsletter as to how you can submit a letter for your favorite COP volunteer.
