Sweeter Than Ever

by Diana Seebode

September 28th rolled around and another great KNOX COUNTY BICYCLE CHALLENGE - KCBC - went off on the great scenic byways (read that hilly) leading out of Gambier. Tunnel Hill, Crooked Road, Roscoe Village water tower on Hill Street, the screaming down hill to Glenmont, and the Walhonding Valley were all taken in on another perfect riding day. It doesn’t get any better than this.

The folks on the 33 mile short loop were challenged early before the route moderated and everyone got the chance to sample a stretch of the Kokosing River Bikeway. Only one person needed sag service and a bolt in Roscoe Village put her back on the road. Of the 226 registered riders, 86 completed the full 100 miles. The most popular option was the 78 mile ride to Roscoe Village and Hill road. The remaining long option riders enjoyed the metric century.

It doesn’t happen with out help. The following folks put in a full day after driving 70 miles the dark: Dave Knight, Randy Bennett, Marsha Wikle, Charlie Pace, Eve Holland, and Frank Seebode. Annett Lendecki, Eve Hush, Janice Thomas and Jim Wakefield helped with parking and registration.

Note the familiar names in those volunteers - Charlie Pace (TOSRV), Randy Bennett (XOBA), Eve Holland (CFC) - they put in many hours providing events for you to enjoy. Next time there is a request for volunteers or someone makes a recruiting call, see if you can put in a day or two. Dave Knight, Marsha Wikle, and Frank Seebode did.

See you on the road.
