The bicycling program is starting the season with some new energy and leadership. Bikin' Bob Waddell has generously stepped forward to coordinate and compile the monthly ride schedule, which promises to become packed once again with our many bicycling events throughout Central Ohio. Bob also completed the "Fridge Poster" of COP bicycling tours in this month's newsletter and fine-tuned our ad for the Ohio Bicycle Federation calendar. Donna Bush will serve as backup to Bob on the newsletter schedule.
In addition, a group of veteran ride leaders, including Todd Lee, Donna Bush, Tricia Kovacs, and Steve Barbour, have volunteered and joined forces to present important information during our ride leader training workshops. We also have some new tour leaders this season. Barb & Bruce Meyers are leading SPOT in April, taking the place of Dick Seebode, who is "retiring" after many years of leading this tour. We returned Ridge Runner Ramble to its usual spot on the calendar, in early August, after an experiment last year of tying it with a July 4th event in Gahanna. Tradition is often a good thing. Another tour, Ride the Darby, will feature a trio of leaders: Bikin' Bob Waddell, Randy Brownfield, and longtime tour leader Dave Brokaw. Thanks to all who have volunteered over the years to lead tours and weekly rides. We welcome back veterans as we also encourage new ride and tour leaders.
Not everything is in place, however, for an outstanding season. We need a couple of leaders for the Knox County Bicycle Challenge, which has been ably led for many years by Dick Seebode. Dick is firm about his retirement. If you are interested in leading this tour, or helping with food or SAG, please call me or Debby Evans, 895-8278. We also need many people to assist in our roster of budget tours, act as mentors to new riders and handle special requests that could enhance our program. If you want to volunteer or find out ways you can be more involved, please call me at 276-5562.
