Eddy Lines By John Lane

Several months ago Eric Gehres guest-wrote the Eddy Lines section to report on changing efforts, names and programs in the COP whitewater section. Now it's my turn to do the same for COP sea kayaking.

We convened a group of interested sea kayakers who are going to be taking various instructor classes and participating in other educational activities in order to build up our sea kayak instructor base.

Joan Bowman, John Markiel, Monica Bluestein, Walt Taylor, Doug Eldridge, Jacalyn Slemmer, Jeff Rhoades, Dave Savage, Rick Taylor, Les Groby, Curt Goetz, Rick Allison and I will be working together to beef up our sea kayaking classes.

Last month we unwrapped 8 new solo sea kayaks from Current Design. We have two each of their Breeze, Storm, Squall and Sirocco. These are available for rent. We also have several one and two-year old solo kayaks for sale in the classifieds section. We will have three sea kayak intro classes this summer once the water warms up so it will be a good year to try on a sea kayak for size and join us on our expeditions to somewhere.

NEW MEMBER - Julie Titone

Although a native of Illinois, I moved to Boise after college graduation in 1974. Spent 10 years there, then 18 years in the Spokane, WA area. I've been active in the Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club — board member, trip leader, cookie baker, agitator. I have three boats: a Mad River Guide (solo, for moving water but nothing above class II-plus); a kevlar Wenonah Spirit II canoe; and a Current Designs sea kayak, which has spent most of its time on big inland lakes, plus Puget Sound. I'm single and have one 20-year-old son, who's still out West. Oddly enough, he never caught the paddling bug from me. He seems to think that boats should have motors. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter and editor, here on fellowship to get a journalism graduate degree at OSU.
