Death to a Tour?

By Kathy Hoke & Dick Seebode

The fate of KCBC rests with volunteers . . .

Columbus Outdoor Pursuits took over the operation of the Knox County Bicycle Challenge (KCBC) six years ago. Last year, Dick Seebode had to ask three long-term COP volunteers, who have already given many hours to our bicycling program, to come up with six volunteers who would spend a day supporting this tour. "When you run out of recruits," says Seebode, "you must resign."

We continue to look for a tour leader for KCBC, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 20. The main responsibility will be to check things out, approve the planning, obtain an application and run the tour. Dick Seebode is offering to obtain facilities, make maps, develop a menu, mark the road, buy the food, provide staging for day of ride and offer to support. But as far as the day of the ride, Seebode says, "This year, I plan to ride."

We are looking for at least six volunteers to help with various parts of the tour and one person who will oversee the work leading up to the big day and will run the tour on Sept. 20. With Dick's help and the help of at least six others, we can make this a successful tour once again.

Please contact Kathy Hoke, bicycling activity chair, today. We don't want to lose KCBC to indifference.
