Got What it Takes??

By Keith Finn

COP really needs someone to step up to the plate and take a swing at being the next COP Bicycling Chair.

Kathy Hoke, embroiled in the effort to save the Ohio Historical Society from the Ohio Legislature, does not have the time to also continue being Bicycling Chair. This leaves the leadership position of COP's largest activity vacant. I made an appeal in the April Newsletter and have received zero response. There must be someone in our large cycling group that can be the leader!

As a temporary measure, our COP Vice-President, Glenn Beachy, has assumed the interim position as the Bicycle Chair. But I have to emphasize that this is a **temporary** measure.

The next Bicycling Chair does not need to be an ubercyclist. However, he or she needs to act as a communications conduit between the COP Board and the cycling community. I realize that the amusing (and inaccurate) COP rumor-mill paints Board Members as pointy-fanged monsters, and there is an assumption that any spell as an Activity Leader is equated to time in hell. **But this is just not the case!** We are pretty much just ordinary people doing their best to keep this organization running.

I am on the board out of a sense of duty. The things I have done, the places I've seen, and the person I am now _ so much of my potential was brought out from COP leaders and programs. The work I have done as trip leader, board member, cook, and President scarcely begin to pay back what I have taken from COP.

There must be one dedicated cyclist out there with a similar sense of duty, or adventure, or just wants to do some good work. We are doing what we can to reduce the work load imposed on the Bicycling Chair, and Kathy has a good support network already in place to handle much of the routine work. But we need that one brave soul to sit on the top of the pyramid. Could that be you? I double-dog dare ya to give it a try!

Please contact me or Glenn Beachy at the President or Vice-President email address listed on page two of this newsletter.

Keith Finn is the President of Columbus Outdoor Pursuits.
