COP Bicycling Program

By Barb Renick

As some of you may already know, Kathy Hoke has resigned as Bicycling Activity Leader. Kathy took this on as a two year assignment and made significant contributions to the program. Now we need a new leader to step forward. Without a leader, it will be difficult to have a cycling program. My idea is to break the job down into pieces so that more people can contribute and the overall job becomes fun instead of a burden.

Already we have some volunteers:

  • Bicycling email
  • Leader jerseys
  • Annual recognition party
  • Schedule

Dave Jeffords

Donna Bush

Kathy Hoke

Bob Waddell

We still need coordinators for the following areas:

  • Training
  • Budget and full-service tours
  • Risk management
  • Newsletter article solicitor

See below for brief descriptions of these jobs. Most of the work in these jobs can be done during the off-season, and all of them require less than 40 hours per year (less than 1 hour per week on average).

Training:

  • Plan the annual training program for ride leaders.
  • Recruit others to teach training classes.

Tour coordinator:

  • Recruit and train leaders for budget and full-service tours.
  • Establish schedule for tours, place advertising.
  • Prepare release form for budget tours.

Risk Management:

  • Make release forms available to ride leaders.
  • Work with the COP risk management committee
when a ride leader fails to turn in release forms.

Newsletter Article Solicitor:

  • Solicit articles from the membership that would be
    of general interest.

We still need a leader for the Knox County Bicycle Challenge. Cheri Thrash has volunteered to recruit workers for registration and foodstops; Dick Seebode is willing to plan the route, paint the arrows, plan the menu, order and purchase the food, and make the food stop location arrangements. We still need someone to make the flyer and handle registration prior to and day of the ride. Contact Kathy Hoke at 614/276-5562 if you want to help with KCBC.
