President's Message

By Glenn Beachy

Hello everyone. Summer is really here now and there is so much going on in COP that it is hard to know where to start. By the time you read this we'll know how TOSRV went. At this writing the weather looks promising. Recently I had a chance to ride part of the Westerville bike trail as far south as Rt 161 and I want to tell you that I'm really jazzed about the progress being made in Central Ohio to serve cyclists of all ages through the ever expanding trail system. If you are new to cycling and aren't yet confident enough to cycle on the road try one of the Metro park trails here in Franklin and surrounding counties. Many are suitable for in-line skating as well.

GOBA is coming up soon and there are volunteer opportunities available. GOBA is a lot of fun in its own right and the proceeds go to promote cycling via the Ohio to Erie trail, bike racks on Columbus city buses and other worthwhile projects. You can be a part of the movement by helping out on GOBA, TOSRV or any of the COP events.

COP will once again be sponsoring the Bike n Bus program this summer. Cyclists using the bus bike racks ride free. I hope that many of you can take advantage of this program and extend the use of your bicycle as a form of transportation.

Recently a plaque was installed in Westerville along the bike path which relates the contribution of COP to the creation of the Ohio to Erie trail. Take a look at that if you are using the trail there and take a little pride in our efforts. We will be having a ceremony soon to dedicate it. It won't be but a couple years until the trail is complete and one of the longest trails in the country will take you from Cincinnati to Cleveland without having to contend with motor vehicle traffic.

I'd like to thank all the veteran, retired and new trip leaders and volunteers who give of their time, expertise and enthusiasm to create the COP activities. I encourage everyone who has enjoyed our events to consider taking that next step to volunteer. We constantly try to improve by working and learning together.
