Pacelines

January 2006
I hope your holiday season was as enjoyable as mine. I was able to get to Florida for a few days to visit family and start real estate proceedings to settle my stepfather’s estate. I had great sunny weather while there. But, I returned to Ohio in a freezing rainstorm. Just as well, as I have said before, I am not a cold weather rider. The bike has been on the wall since October.
My winter biking activities are taken up by planning and training for the coming year. Early January is the deadline for several publications that include our ride schedules. Dates are set for our 2006 budget tours and plans are in place for ride leader classes in March.
Many individuals have asked if we could develop a fall ride similar to the Hilly 100 in Indiana. Our board has elected to follow up on this idea. I am currently in discussions with interested individuals to develop a weekend ride in mid-October that will give us a two-day campout ride like a small GOBA. We would like to have indoor and outdoor accommodations with ride loops from a central location such as Delaware. Stay tuned as plans progress.
I just read that the Colorado State Patrol has placed a 2500 rider limit on all rides in that state. This is certain to impact some of Colorado’s larger rides. We will have to see how this works and hope that it is not a spreading trend.
Scott Martin wrote feature articles for Bicycling magazine for 12 years. Recently he has published his hit parade in a couple of issues of the Road Bike Riders publication. I have included just a few of his humorous selections. There are dozens more in RoadBikeRider.com’s weekly newsletter.
