Winter Century Report
Bob Waddell, Sun, 29 Jan 2006
24 riders rode yesterday from Deer Creek Lake on the weekly Winter Century Series ride. It was a wonderful day to be biking. The temperature soared to 57°F and the sun shined all day. The winds were 15mph from the SW that made the first half of the ride to Bainbridge challenging, but it also made the last half so much fun with the tailwinds pushing us back to Deer Creek State Park. I thought that Potts Hill was going to be the highlight of this ride with it’s 12% grades, but we were surprised by Hurless Road which jumped up in front of us with a monster grade of 19%, although not very long. The first and last sections were quite flat but the southern half of the big loop racked up a total of 4500 feet of elevation gain on my altimeter. 9 riders completed the 105-mile route while the remainder opted for 67 miles, swinging back north after brunch at Greenfield. I hope everyone enjoyed their ride.
