February 2007

Our annual Ride Leaders party for 2006, normally in November, was delayed. A two-month construction delay at our party location pushed our time to February. I hope the short delay is well worth the wait. Our party this year will be at the Aquatic Adventures Aquatic Center in Hilliard.

As many of you know I have been a SCUBA instructor for this organization for the past fourteen years. During 2006 Aquatic Adventures has been constructing a new pool and retail facility at Hilliard-Cemetery Road and Interstate 270. The facility is due to open in February, and we have permission to be the first group to initiate the new Party Deck near the larger pool at the center. Our party date will be Saturday, February 10, from 6:30 PM until about 9 PM. As in past years, COP and I will provide finger foods and snacks along with soft drinks. As usual, a party attitude is mandatory. Bathing suits and tropical shirts are optional, but recommended. Plan to get wet, or not, as you wish.

Join me for the party. I will have forms and supplies as usual for you to pick up. As always, your guests are welcome. If you are a current leader or are considering becoming a leader and have not registered for the party, contact me ASAP to get your name on the list.

I have scheduled the Columbus Outdoor Pursuits meeting room on March 10 for Ride Leader training. If you are a current leader wanting a refresher, or are considering leading rides or tours for us, contact me. See the Meetings Section for further details.

Again, during 2006, I had great fun photographing several of our tours. I was pleased that GOBA elected to use several of my pictures in the 2007 GOBA calendar. TOSRV also has also used my photos in their publications. I have also contributed for the last two years to the Photo CD provided to riders by XOBA. I hope you also get enjoyment from photographing our tours.

Thanks to Steve Houck for his regular contributions of photos and updates. I enjoyed his layout of the Colorado tour in the January issue. We still need additional pictures for the newsletter. The annual Bicycle edition will be the March issue. If you have pictures you would like to see in the newsletter, get in touch with the editor or me. We welcome your input to the publications.

Donna Bush is currently scheduling Roving Ride dates to begin in April. If you plan on leading a ride, or think you might want to, contact Donna by e-mail, bikedonna (AT) sbcglobal.net. If you do not have e-mail, call her at 614/837-6744. Please submit a couple of dates for which you are available, how many rides you would like to do, and from where.

Jack Hornsby is the Bicycling Activity Chair. Contact him at 614/877-3085 or bicycling (AT) outdoor-pursuits.org with your comments or suggestions.
