Pacelines

March 2007

As I have probably mentioned before, these articles are written a month in advance to facilitate printing and mailing prior to the issue date. As I sit here in early February it is minus 2 degrees outside. I certainly look forward to March. Both Buckeye Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil have forecast an early spring this year. That should put it at around March 15. That should give us good weather for the annual Bicycle Membership meeting on March 20. Plan to join me for our annual get together at the office to look at our programs and provide your input to planning.

Bike Leader training will take place on Saturday, March 10. Please contact me if you would like to become a ride leader or you are a current leader wanting an update. For leaders wanting to join the Roving Saturday schedule, there are still a few open dates. Check the Ride Schedule for those dates.

I had a chuckle recently while reading the Road Bike Riders Publication. They mentioned several scientific methods of measuring our body index percentage. Followed by this tip.

"Tip! What's the best way to tell if you need to lose weight? Your body-fat percentage can be evaluated in a lab, at your doctor's office or even at your health club. But here's a quicker, easier and cheaper technique. Get naked, stand in front of a full-length mirror, and bounce up and down. If something jiggles that shouldn't, you're carrying too much weight. Don't laugh — this is often as accurate as fancy lab tests. It won't give you a percentage, but your eyes don't lie."

I'm with them; the simplest methods are usually the best.

I am still looking for that individual(s) to assume my position when I retire, in July. While our Bike Leaders do an excellent job of organization and running rides; we need the overall Bicycling Activities Leader to coordinate those activities and act as liaison with the Columbus Outdoor pursuits Board. Other volunteer positions within Bicycling include that of Tour Director and someone to track liability risk documents on an Excel spread sheet. Contact me if you can help. Our programs depend on volunteers.
