Pacelines

Volunteers are the basis of Columbus Outdoor Pursuits programs. This is especially
true of the bicycling programs. I'm happy to report a good turn out of 40 bike leaders
and guests at out annual bike leaders party at Aquatic Adventures swimming center
in Hilliard. I had a super time celebrating my 66th birthday and sharing my other
side as a SCUBA instructor with the group. Snacks this year were provided by Cheeseburger
in Paradise of Hilliard. A few spent time in the pools, while others used the time
to catch up with other leaders.
Each year at this meeting I recognize those who have shown exceptional volunteer service and received praise from our riders. This year's certificates of appreciation were awarded to a few of our many dedicated leaders.
Steve Houck _ Steve job will require him to move from the area. Steve has recruited others to assume the Licking Da Hills ride. Thanks to Steve for the years of service helping to plan Columbus Fall Challenge and his many contributions to our newsletter.
Donna Bush and Al Moore for Heart of Ohio Tour. According to correspondence from riders: "The HOOT route was Terrific. I have ridden the roads in that area for more years than I like to count, and the route took me on roads I had not traveled before and on familiar roads from different angles… Nice Job!" Thank you for your efforts over the years.
Dave Brokaw and Randy Brownfield for Ride the Darby. Road construction caused this year's Darby to be rerouted. Dave and Randy basically reversed the normal course and made a few detours. This still produced a super well-planned ride. I received the following message from a happy non-COP rider. "I and two friends rode Ride the Darby. Just as you advertised, it was a super ride. We didn't make any wrong turns, thanks to the road markings (we usually manage to take an unplanned scenic tour or two). We even made it to Harrisburg at parade time and ate lunch at the town fair. We live in New Carlisle, 15 miles south of Springfield. So were wondering if it would be worth the drive. Glad we came. We'll be back next year." Thanks Dave and Randy.
Plan to join us as a volunteer. We can use your time from a few hours up to whatever time you can contribute.
