Cycle-Tourist Photos
Hit The Open Road

"Since 1982, Greg Siple has photographed the â€~wonderful parade' of cross-country bicycle tourists who make the Adventure Cycling office in Missoula a stop on their itinerary." So begins a story in this past Sunday's edition of the daily Missoulian newspaper about a new gallery show, titled "Bicycle Eclectic," which features a small cross-section of those photographs. Check out the piece here: www.missoulian.com/articles/2007/04/16/territory/ter84.txt Greg, the co-founder and longtime art director of Adventure Cycling, says he snapped shots of just thirty riders in his first year of shooting in '82. "The results were so nice," he says, "that I decided to keep going." Did he ever! And his persistence has paid off, with a collection of nearly 3,000 images, only a fraction of which are included in the gallery show. Framed and with accompanying mini-stories, the twenty portraits will hang through May 11 in the University Center Gallery at the University of Montana. After that, the exhibit will travel around the state of Montana for more than a year, visiting a total of eight communities. And after that who knows where the framed cyclists will head? Here's a link to the Montana schedule posted at the Missoula Art Museum's website: http://tinyurl.com/2w7wzh Meanwhile, the parade of photos will get longer and longer as more touring cyclists visit our office, and Greg hunts them down with his camera. That's one reason we're in the beginning stages of raising funds for a follow-up show.
