HITTING THE WALL

The final touches are being put on a 100-mi. bike trail that follows the path of the Berlin Wall. Built in 1961 by Communist East Germany, the Wall was demolished in 1989. The $6 million trail approximating its former location offers an intriguing, physically challenging ride that wends its way largely through green spaces & parks in and around Berlin. "The Wall is part of our past and we can't just erase it," Michael Cramer, mastermind of the trail idea, told a Reuters reporter. The dark history associated with the Wall is interpreted on approximately thirty signs erected along the route. Learn more here: www.reuters.com/article/inDepthNews/idUSL1217692520070812
