Spoken' Words

Requiem for Winter

It's hard to believe that it's time to start the weekday rides as I write this in the midst of the worst snowstorm in Columbus in nearly 100 years.  Just a week earlier, the Sunday Canal Winchester ride saw 50 degree temperatures and beautiful sun.  Such are the trials and tribulations of cyclist in Spring in central Ohio

As March comes in as a lion though, it's important to think ahead to the Budget tours that will lead up the TOSRV and beyond.  True, the 20 inches of snow outside the door right now is a tad discouraging but think of the fun and camaraderie of Woodstock, SPOT, MOC, TOP and finally TOSRV.  Think of the perfect weather, the faultless road surfaces and the biting sarcasm from friends just too soft from the long winter to take a pull at the front of the paceline (Note:  COP does not guarantee biting sarcasm but will however guarantee perfect weather for TOSRV as long as rain and headwinds are considered perfect).

The winter has been unusually hard in central Ohio this year. Freakishly bad weather has plagued the Winter Century Series and every other planned outdoor ride each weekend this winter.  The participants of this year's Canal Winchester spin class where indeed prepared to commit hate crimes against the local meteorological community as there was no breaks from indoor trainer sessions.  One can only hope that spring will be much more conducive to the care and handling of COP Cyclist.

Remember as you embark on this years budget tours and early weekday rides to start off with modest goals.  It's been a while since CFC and the peak of last year's conditioning.  Take time to ease into your routine as the weather turns warmer.  Most importantly remember to welcome back friends as the riding season starts anew.
