On The Road Again

by Diane Eaton

Diane and Hap Eaton, COP members from Circleville, are completing a self contained perimeter bicycle tour of the United States in May, 2008. Their journey began in May, 2007 from Circleville. They have traveled across the northern states to Anacortes, WA, down the west coast to San Diego, east across the southern US to St. Augustine, FL and are now riding up the Atlantic coast as far north as Lancaster, PA before turning west to Ohio. As of March 30 they were in Edenton, NC having traveled 8900 miles. Diane and Hap have been taking self-contained cycle tours for 21 years. They had always wanted to do a ride that they didn't have to rush back from. There was also another reason for the ride. To raise awareness about a genetic lung condition called Alpha One Anti-trypsin Deficiency (Alpha One) that her brother-in-law has. Along their journey Diane and Hap have been stopping to spend time with patients and support groups as well as talking to anyone who will listen about getting tested for this genetic disease. You can find out more about it at www.alphaone.org

For more info on Diane and Hap's tour you can read about it on their website at www.outbikin.blogspot.com
