Coshocton to Zanesville Day 6 <-- || --> Day 8 |
The ride from Coshocton to Dresden was pastoral, pretty, and down wind. Dresden is the home of Longaberger Baskets, the world’s largest basket, and the Dresden Suspension Bridge where four of us ate our picnic-style lunch. The original bridge was built in 1853 and was the second wire cable bridge of its type in the world. The original washed out in the great flood of 1913 and was replaced soon after by our ‘picnic bridge’, but 14 feet higher. The Muskingum River was just over our right shoulders all the way into Zanesville.
The prettiest campsite at the Zanesville High School was at the top of a hill dotted with trees. With little imagination it looked woodsy. Here Steve and Mike planned their bicycle route to their homes in Columbus. They had ridden 145 miles to the start in Wauseon in one day.
